Thomas Woodcock is a herald and genealogist who was born on 20 May 1951 in the United Kingdom. He is the current Garter Principal King of Arms, the senior heraldic officer in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and some Commonwealth realms. He is also the editor of the College of Arms' official publication, The Coat of Arms. Woodcock was educated at St. Edward's School, Oxford, and the University of London. He joined the College of Arms in 1975 and was appointed Rouge Croix Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary in 1978. He was promoted to Richmond Herald of Arms in Ordinary in 1988 and to Norroy and Ulster King of Arms in 1995. In 2010, he was appointed Garter Principal King of Arms. Woodcock is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and a member of the Heraldry Society. He is also a member of the Royal Company of Archers, the Queen's Bodyguard for Scotland. Woodcock began his heraldic career in 1975 as a research assistant to Sir Anthony Wagner, Garter King of Arms. In 1978 he was appointed Rouge Croix Pursuivant. In 1982 he was promoted to Somerset Herald, becoming Norroy and Ulster in 1997, then Garter Principal King of Arms on 1 April 2010.
A Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Lancashire since December 2005, he assists the Lord Lieutenant, Lord Shuttleworth, to represent Queen Elizabeth II throughout the county.
In 1998, Woodcock married Lucinda Harmsworth King.
Woodcock was appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) in the 1996 Birthday Honours, promoted Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in the 2011 Birthday Honours.
