Ross Bagdasarian was an American singer-songwriter, actor, and record producer. He was born on January 27, 1919 in Fresno, California. He is best known for creating the cartoon characters Alvin and the Chipmunks, and for his work in the music industry. Bagdasarian began his career as a singer and songwriter in the 1940s, and released his first single, "Come On-a My House," in 1951. He went on to release several more singles, and in 1958, he released his first album, The Chipmunk Song. The album was a huge success, and spawned the hit single "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Bagdasarian also wrote and produced several other hit songs, including "Witch Doctor," "Alvin's Harmonica," and "Ragtime Cowboy Joe." He also wrote and produced the music for the Alvin and the Chipmunks television series, which ran from 1961 to 1962. Bagdasarian was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970, and was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. He passed away on January 16, 1972 at the age of 52. At the time of his death, Bagdasarian had an estimated net worth of $20 million.
