Richard Madden is a Scottish film, stage, and television actor. He is known for his roles in the films A Promise, Cinderella (2015), Bastille Day, Ibiza, Rocketman, 1917, and Eternals, and on the series Barmy Aunt Boomerang, Game of Thrones, Birdsong, Klondike, Medici, and Bodyguard.
Richard grew up in Elderslie, Scotland. His mother, Pat, is a primary school teacher, and his father, Richard Madden, is a firefighter. His mother’s maiden name is said to be Mulholland. Both Madden and Mulholland are usually Irish names. Richard joined Paisley Arts Centre’s youth theatre programme at eleven, to help overcome his shyness. He was soon cast as young Andy in the film adaptation of Iain Banks’ Complicity.
