Patrick founded CPW Productions in 2009, with Jeff Chegwin and James Ware, and later established his own company, Nick Patrick Productions, based at Shine Studios in London Across his career, Patrick has been associated with albums with combined sales of over 50 million. He has produced five number one albums on the UK Album Chart, has been nominated for three Grammy awards, and has won eight Album of the Year Classic Brit Awards.

Since the 1990s, Patrick has worked mainly in the genre of classical crossover music, with musicians including Russell Watson, The Soldiers, Placido Domingo, Bryn Terfel, Andrea Bocelli, Katherine Jenkins, Alfie Boe and Michael Ball. Patrick produced Ball's UK number one album Coming Home to You. He has also produced several albums on which archival recordings by such acts as Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Bing Crosby, The Beach Boys, and Aretha Franklin have been augmented with orchestral accompaniments by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

He turned freelance in the early 1980s, and for several years worked mainly in Europe, in recording studios in Madrid, Paris and Brussels. He produced his first album in 1984. The musicians with whom he worked included Alaska y Dinarama, Alain Bashung, Marc Seberg, the Gipsy Kings, and Mory Kanté, whose international hit "Yé ké yé ké", taken from the album Akwaba Beach, was produced by Patrick.
