Matt Smith is a well-known English actor who was most popularly known for his role as the eleventh incarnation of “The Doctor,” where he was seen working actively from 2003 to now.

Matthew Robert Smith was born on 28 October 1982 in Northampton, England as the son of a mother, Lynne Smith, and father, David Smith. Smith has one sister whose name is Laura Jayne Smith, where she was the one dancers who have been featured in the popular music video “Call on Me,” which is Eric Prydz’s song of the year 2004. 

From the year 2008 to 2009, Matt Smith used to have a relationship with the singer Mayana Moura. After that, he was in a relationship with model Daisy Lowe, an English fashion model whose relationship was only kept from 2010 to 2014. Now, he was in a relationship with actress Lily James since 2014.

Early Life and Education

In his early life, Matt Smith was interested in playing football as his grandfather played football for Notts County. Smith joined Northampton School for Boys, where he had also planned to play football. He started to play for youth teams of Northampton Town, Nottingham Forest, and Leicester City, where he had become the captain of the latter’s youth team. Later, he had poorly injured in his back, which resulted in spondylosis. After that injury, he was not able to continue with his football career. 

Later, his drama teacher introduced him to acting where he had been cast into the theatrical production without his permission. Later, he did not participate in two occasions, but his teacher managed that in the tenth juror to adapt “Twelve Angry Men,” a play by Reginald Rose. After that, he participated in the play, but he refused to participate in the drama festival, but his teacher had already included his name. Smith thought that he was damaging his social life if he was acting where he wanted to be a football player. Also, his drama teacher influences him to join the National Youth Theatre in London.  

Matt Smith joined the University of East Anglia, where he studied Drama and Creative Writing, and he was graduated in the year 2005. After becoming a part of the National Youth Theatre, he was seen playing his first role as Thomas Becket in “Murder in the Cathedral” and later, seen as Bassoon in “The Master and Margarita.” Later, he was able to earn a professional role in “Fresh Kills” and “On the Shore of the Wide World,” which made him able to graduate without attending any lectures in his final year. Smith started to like acting and sports both in his career.

Matt Smith was cast into the BBC adaptations of the Sally Lockhart quartet books television movie, “The Ruby in the Smoke” and “The Shadow in the North” as Jim Taylor. After that, he was seen playing in the television series “Party Animals,” in which his role as Danny Foster made him earn more popularity. Smith himself has described his character, Denny, by saying that he had a romantic outlook of the political world while being cynical elsewhere.  

After that, he gave the audition for the comedy series “The Inbetweeners” as Will McKenzie, but it was given to actor Simon Bird where later, the Iain Morries told that he was a bit too dashing for the role.

Matt Smith was cast as the Eleventh Doctor in the television series “Doctor Who,” a British science-fiction television series where he appeared in January 2009 after replacing David Tennant. Later, he gave the audition for the role of John Watson in a British crime television series “Sherlock,” where he was not able to earn the part because Steven Moffat had already given that role to Benedict Cumberbatch.

Later, he had become the first Doctor who was able to be nominated for a BAFTA for Best Actor, where The BBC and Wenger thought that he was young for his role, and they seem cautious about casting him in the series. But he was able to prove his acting skills and performance in “Party Animals.” He was also able to be nominated for the Outstanding Drama Performance Category.
