Kamini A. Rao is an Indian doctor and medical researcher. She is the founder and director of the Bangalore Institute of Oncology, a leading cancer research and treatment center in India. She is also the founder and chairperson of the Indian Society of Oncology. Rao was born in Bengaluru, India, on 2 July 1953. She completed her MBBS from Bangalore Medical College in 1976 and her MD in Internal Medicine from the same college in 1979. She then went on to pursue a fellowship in Medical Oncology from the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. Rao has been a pioneer in the field of cancer research and treatment in India. She has been instrumental in setting up the Bangalore Institute of Oncology, which is now one of the leading cancer research and treatment centers in India. She has also been involved in the development of several cancer drugs and treatments. Rao has been honored with several awards, including the Padma Shri in 2009, the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award in 2011, and the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award for Excellence in Medical Research in 2012.
