Jaime Gil de Biedma was a Spanish poet, essayist, and novelist. He was born in Nava de la Asunción, Segovia, Castilla y León, Spain, on 13 November 1929. He studied law at the University of Madrid and worked as a lawyer for a time. He was a member of the Generation of '50, a group of Spanish poets who emerged in the 1950s. Gil de Biedma was a prolific writer, publishing numerous books of poetry, essays, and novels. His works include the poetry collections Poemas de amor (1956), El amor, la poesía (1962), and El tiempo de los amigos (1966). His essays include El arte de la poesía (1962) and El arte de la novela (1966). His novels include El amor de los amores (1962) and El amor de los amores (1966). Gil de Biedma was awarded the National Prize for Literature in 1975. He died in Barcelona on 8 April 1990.
