Gene McFadden is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his work with the Philadelphia soul group McFadden & Whitehead, which he co-founded with John Whitehead. He is also known for writing and producing hits for other artists, including "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" for Lou Rawls and "Backstabbers" for The O'Jays. McFadden was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and began his career as a songwriter and producer in the late 1960s. He and Whitehead wrote and produced hits for artists such as The O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, and Teddy Pendergrass. In 1979, McFadden and Whitehead released their debut album, McFadden & Whitehead, which featured the hit single "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now". The song became a number one hit on the R&B charts and was later covered by numerous artists. McFadden and Whitehead continued to write and produce hits throughout the 1980s, including "I Got the Love" for Chaka Khan and "I Heard It in a Love Song" for The Marshall Tucker Band. In the 1990s, McFadden released several solo albums, including Love Is a Wonderful Thing (1991) and I Hear the Word (1995). McFadden has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame.
